Dueling/Collaborating Pianists
What happens when one of the most sought after jazz pianists in the tri-state area joins forces with an award-winning composer/pianist from the international classical musical scene? A musical mélange of thought-provoking creativity, flashy virtuosity, and sensual expression unique to Kurt Thum and Raphael Fusco’s exciting, new jazz/experimental project MAJOR KEYS. At home in Jazz, Ragtime, Rock, Funk and Mozart, 177’s sound emanates from over 100 years of Jazz, four centuries of Western Classical Music, and leads us into the future with spontaneously composed free improvisations. In these extemporizations the pianists feed off of each other’s energy and that of the audience, engaging the listener in the creative process in a manner completely sui generis. "Improvisation X" was created live in their recital on November 1st, 2009 in the historic St. Peter's Church in Chelsea.
